On Friday 26th April, eight year 6 pupils from Coddington Primary School attended the Newark and Sherwood District Pop Lacrosse Tournament at Dukeries Academy in Ollerton.
The tournament included 5 teams: Coddington, Chuter Ede, Park Gate Academy, Forest View Red, Forest View Blacks.
The Coddington team had been practising Pop Lacrosse in their PE lessons last half term, but this was the first time any of them had played in a school competition. Therefore, it would have been understandable to be slightly nervous in our first fixture against regular sporting rivals Chuter Ede. Fortunately we got off to a great start. Early goals from Josh Blant and Max James put any nerves to bed and we went from strength to strength, eventually coming out 8-2 winners in our first game.
Through out the next three games, the Coddington players continued to surprise even themselves with their confidence and skill for this new sport. Every attacker and midfielder scored at least one goal and our defenders made some fantastic blocks and stops. As a result, we recorded a 5-3 win over Forest View Reds, a 4-0 win over Park Gate Academy and 12-0 win over Forest View Blacks.
Following their 4 wins in the tournament, I am pleased to say that Coddington were the winners of the Newark and Sherwood District Pop Lacrosse competition and will now go on to compete in the County finals on 4th June at Nottingham Trent University.
Mr Evans would like to say a big congratulations to all the players: Daniel Aldridge, Josh Blant, Elliot Thacker, Max James, Eleanor Winter, Kerys Thompson, Freya Brummitt, Ella Woodward.
Also, a big thank you to Mr Simmonds and Helen Aldridge for helping with lifts to and from the tournament.
