On Wednesday 6th February, a team of twenty year 5 and 6 athletes represented Coddington Primary School at the Newark and Sherwood District Sports Hall Athletics finals, at Newark Academy.
The Coddington team included: Imogen Clifford, Ella Woodward, Mia Crouch, Emilie Crerar, Emily Harrison, Eleanor Winter, Ella Turkington, Katy Mckinlay, Freya Brummitt, Eloise Kennett, Jacob Blant, Josh Blant, Jake Warren, James Thornley, Charlie Ashley, Deon McDavid, Tom Mann, Seth Andrews, Evan Marshall, Finley Poole.
The competition included 8 of the best performing schools from across the district (Coddington, Barnby Road, Chuter Ede Balderton, Bleasby, John Blow, Lowes Wong, Ravenshead, St Mary’s).
As in the January qualifying completion, the Coddington team competed in a variety of individual throwing and jumping events, as well as various team relay running races. In each event, schools received points corresponding to their position (for example 1st place= 1 point, 2nd place= 2 points). Therefore the school with the lowest number of total points at the end was declared the winner.
Some of the Coddington performance highlights included:
• 1st place in girls chest pass, boys chest pass and boys hurdle race.
• 2nd place in the girls vertical jump.
• 3rd place in the boys triple jump, boys speed bounce and mixed sprint relay.
After all the event scores had been accumulated, Coddington had a total of 86 points. This meant we finished in a very commendable 4th position.
Mr Evans would like to say how pleased he was with all the Coddington athletes. You practised really hard, gave one hundred percent in all your events and put in a fantastic team performance. You are all extremely talented sporting individuals, with an outstanding positive attitude; and you should be very proud of your achievements.
